Senior Thermal Aerodynamics Engineer

Full-time position

On-site

Los Altos, CA

This position for a Senior Thermal Aerodynamics Engineer is based in Los Altos, CA and you will optimize the thermal and aerodynamic characteristics and the aeronautical design of the ASKA™ drive and fly vehicle for consumers. 

The ideal candidate has excellent technical, research and analytical capabilities. We need a hands-on person with an eye for innovation and experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team (mechanical, electronic, propulsion and software).

 

This is a senior position and requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience.

Responsibilities 

  • Provide technical leadership to ensure optimal aerodynamic performance. 

  • Support design of the ASKA™ through all phases of aerodynamic design analyses to integration and test activities.

  • Experience partnering with a multidisciplinary engineering team, including mechanical, electronic, propulsion and software disciplines.

  • Generate, develop, and validate novel airflow management features and systems.

  • Prepare Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, post-process the results, and communicate the learning to team members. 

  • Prepare for and conduct flight tests. 

  • Conduct aero-thermal modeling design and testing.

  • Do Requirements Based Engineering (RBE) and support Value Based Engineering (VBE)

  • Conduct Aero Thermal analysis of system components. Formulate analysis approaches, set up, and carry out analyses of these components using a range of analytical tools. Conduct post-test data analysis to validate and refine the analyses. 

  • Develop integrated heat rejection and cooling systems for multiple subsystems, including propulsion batteries, electric motors, aircraft interiors, and electronic systems.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree in aerospace engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience in thermal management and analysis, aerodynamic design and optimization.

 

Skillset

  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, both internal and external flows. 

  • Background in electric S/VTOL aircraft design is preferred.

  • Excellent knowledge methods for thermal analyses and CFD modeling.

  • Familiarity with thermal management development test methods, ability to analyze test results, and perform development engineering based on test learnings.

  • Experience with TetrUSS, USM3D, FUN3D and/or OpenFOAM is strongly desired.

  • Knowledge of surface mesh preparation using HeldenMesh, VGRID, snappyHexMesh, and/or AFLR3 would be an advantage. 

  • Excellent understanding of geometry creation, simplification and data management using CAD software, preferably 3DExperience CATIA.

  • Experience with wind tunnel testing, either at model scale or full scale. 

  • Experience with flight testing, including instrumentation, data acquisition and processing. 

  • Experience in sustainable energy or related technologies, aircraft or electric vehicle development.

Stress Engineer

Full-time position

This position for a Stress Engineer is based in Los Altos, CA and you will be responsible for optimization of the structural and mechanical design of a roadable electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle called ASKA™

POSITION DUTIES:   Working closely on aero-mechanical design of the ASKA™ vehicle and ensuring optimum performance in an agile environment. Structural design activities to include creating CAD geometries, optimizing the design and validating it through finite element analysis (FEA) simulations.

 

The duties also include dynamic and static stress analysis and composite stress analysis in production environment with composite and metal structures in the aerospace industry. The Stress Engineer will develop, create and validate aeronautical designs and mechanical components; improve the manufacturability of a product (Design for Manufacturing) while controlling cost and weight; prepare static and dynamic Finite Element Analyses and share findings with all team members; identify and develop creative solutions of designs and resolve engineering/structural/mechanical challenges.

 

REQUIREMENTS:    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structures, or Aerospace Engineering and at least 5 years of experience in Structural Analysis or Stress Engineering. 

 

Experience should include: 

 

  • 5+ years of experience in stress analysis of aircraft structural components.

  • Knowledge of technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve a wide range of challenging engineering problems.

  • Experience in analysis of composite laminate and metallic components, preferably in aerospace structures.

  • Experience with static strength, and vibration FEA analysis techniques required.

  • Familiarity with FEA tools, preferably MSC NASTRAN / PATRAN, Altair Hyperworks, FEMAP etc.

  • Demonstrated Skills in usage of CAD software CATIA V5 or equivalent.

  • Well acquainted with the Design requirements, Manufacturing requirements

  • Familiarity with Strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance properties

  • Familiarity with Aircraft certification requirements,Materials, processes, and part standards

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new methods, techniques, and approaches

  • Demonstrated communication skills

Structural Design Engineer

 

Full-time position

Los Altos, CA

This position for Structural Design Engineer requires a minimum of 8 years work experience as in the aerospace industry, designing wing structures of aircraft.

Day-to-day structural design activities involve creating CAD geometries, optimizing the design and validating it through FEA simulations. To validate the computational results, you will progress through bench, wind tunnel and flight testing, resulting in a fully operational vehicle.

BS in Mechanical Engineering or MS with focus on structural design or a comparable industry career of 5+ years.

Flight Control

Engineer

We’re looking for a Flight Control Engineer to help our engineering team take ASKA™ skyward – ASKA™ is the world’s first electric drive and fly vehicle that can drive on the road like a car and take off vertically, and fly in the air like an aircraft.

This is an on-site position at the ASKA™ headquarters in Los Altos, CA

Good communication and people skills are essential. You’ll be joining a mature growth startup and be a dedicated contributor to the team, our vision, and write the future of air mobility.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in flight control engineering

  • Candidates must currently live in the US and must be legally authorized to work in the US.

  • Will consider a visa transfer for a non-US candidate who is already living and working in the U.S.

 

This position will require you to do design, development, analysis and testing of flight control for the ASKA™ drive and fly vehicle. You'll work in all areas of the system development cycle including detail design, integration, flight testing and certification efforts.

 

ON THE JOB:

 

   • Develop flight control and navigation algorithms including linear analysis and non-linear analysis, develop design and analysis tools, and conduct mathematical modeling

   • Develop mathematical modeling and six-DOF simulation of flight vehicle dynamics

   • Perform navigation and control system analysis and optimization, perform simulation development and validation

   • Execute flight data analysis, develop documentation of all facets of work performed, develop flight test plans, and provide flight test support

   • Troubleshoot navigation and flight control anomalies via flight data analysis, correlation with flight software operation and generating corrective actions

   • Deep knowledge of flight control and navigation sensor systems, and perform analysis in connection with these systems

   • Create and review Certification Plans, Qualification Test Procedures and Qualification Test Reports

   • Review qualification by similarity and/or analysis reports

   • Review system safety documents (PSSA, SFHA, AFHA, SSA and Particular Risk Analysis)

   • Create, review and approve ground test procedures, flight test procedures and their corresponding test reports.

 

FLIGHT TESTING:

 

   • Determine test specification definition

   • Discuss, write and review test plans and preparation activities with the engineering team

   • Prepare and review pre- and post-flight briefings

   • Monitor live flight data, typically via telemetry, during flight test on aircraft

   • Process, analyze, and draw conclusions from post flight data

   • Identify non-conformities, quality escapes, etc. to create rejection tags

   • Make assessments to ensure safety of flight determination

   • Write flight test results reports.

 

FLIGHT SCIENCES:

 

   • Expertise in area of stability & control and aircraft handling characteristics

   • Support, plan, execute and analyze Wind Tunnel Activities.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 

   • Minimum 5 years of work experience as a Flight Control Engineer

   • Proficient in software such as C++, MATLAB, Python

   • Hands-on experience applying classical and modern control theory to an autonomous  system

   • Extensive knowledge of aircraft flight testing

   • High proficiency in aerodynamics, aircraft performance and flight controls

   • Proficiency in 3D cut software, Solidworks and Siemens NX

   • Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

   • Extensive experience with AI integration into Flight Control.

This is an on-site position at the ASKA™ headquarters in Los Altos, CA. Occasional travel (5%) will be needed to ensure vendor coordination and verification.

Job Details

  • Devise cutting edge digital strategies and tactics to drive our pre-sales of ASKA™

  • Develop a multichannel digital marketing program to support sales efforts and new user acquisition across channels

  • Engage and monitor our company’s social media audiences and all incoming leads on a daily, consistent basis by reading and responding with targeted information

  • Perform day-to-day social media activities

  • Create a regular publishing schedule for social content

  • Regularly analyze performance results and make recommendations for decisions across spend, targeting, email, creative, landing pages, and beyond.

Qualifications

You have 4+ years of hands-on workplace experience in social media management and digital marketing. Please provide examples of past social media campaigns that you designed, developed and rolled out.
